Igwe Bu Ike. Unity is strength.

Why we need it

Our heritage is one of our greatest treasures. The stories of our elders, our language, customs, music, dance, family photographs and treasured belongings tell the story of who we are.

With each generation there is a real risk that these memories and traditions are lost. As our elders become less able to take part, or pass away, we have an urgent responsibility to keep their knowledge before it disappears.

This is more than a fundraising project. It is an investment in our identity, our history and our future.

What the Centre will offer

A home for our history

A permanent place where our history is collected, protected and shared, so future generations inherit our traditions and a deep sense of belonging.

A place to meet

A central, accessible venue for community meetings, youth programmes, language classes, traditional dance, cultural celebrations, workshops and social events.

An exhibition gallery

A permanent gallery celebrating the history of the Abbi people, our migration journeys, our achievements and our traditions.

Workshops

Flexible spaces for keeping our language alive, storytelling, traditional crafts, cooking and cultural education.

A digital archive

A safe place for family histories, photographs, documents and recorded memories of our elders, for generations to come.

Support when it is needed

A safe space for members of our community facing hardship or temporary displacement. A true home for our people.

Bridges with others

Work with local schools, community groups and cultural partners: public talks, exhibitions, language programmes and cultural events that build understanding and respect.

Between generations

Elders passing on their wisdom, and young people growing up proud of their identity.

Every great community is remembered not only for what it achieved, but for what it chose to preserve for those who came after.

How to give

None of this can happen without the generosity of people who believe in it. Every gift, whatever its size, is a brick in the foundation.
